Niles-Buchanan YMCA to break ground on capital expansion in July, kick off community campaign March 4

NILES, Mich. – The YMCA of Southwest Michigan is pleased to announce its Niles-Buchanan branch will break ground on a $3 million capital expansion in July. The building improvements include a second gymnasium, youth and teen centers, fitness room, and additional space for preschool and Childwatch.

The goal of the Y’s Changing Lives & Improving Health capital campaign is to provide affordable access to places for children and young people to find positive role models, something to do, and a purpose so they have a clear path to a healthy, productive life.

“Investing in the facility is investing in the future of our community,” said Jill Haboush, VP of Fund Development and Marketing, YMCA of Southwest Michigan. “We believe that positive, lasting personal and social change can only happen when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health, and our communities.”

The Changing Lives & Improving Health capital campaign will kick off its community phase on March 4. During this time, the Y hopes to get members and the community involved to raise $25,000-$50,000 with small-dollar contributions toward the campaign.

“If 1,000 people each donated $25 to the campaign, we’d reach the $25,000. Such a large goal becomes manageable when you break it down like this,” said Haboush. “No donation is too small. Everything adds up to have a huge impact on our community.”

The Y has finalized the layout of the 13,682 sq. ft. expansion. Construction beginning in July is expected to take six months to complete.
